A Family Memoir.     When posted to Zimbabwe, foreign correspondent Neely Tucker and his wife Vita volunteered at an orphange at the epicentre of the world's AIDS crisis.  By chance, they meet Chipo, an infant who was abandoned beneath an acacia tree at birth.  Vita saves her from certain death by rushing her to hospital and, under strict doctor's orders, takes her not back to th orphanage but home.

Against the backdrop of a nation falling into political and social chaos in which foreign correpondents were eventurally forced from the country, the Tuckers, an interracial couple from vastly different backgrounds, struggle to keep Chipo alive, then be able to adopt her in a country that all but forbids the practice.    As Tucker criss-crosses the continent from one war zone to another, the memories of his past unforld.   Love in the Driest Season emerges as a race against time; a haunting, ever-deepening love story.
