Rare Book.  Diocesan School for Girls, Auckland  1903-2003.  Illustrated with black and white and colour photographs.    Includes Appendices and Notes.

Follow your star celebrates the centenary of the founding of Diocesan School for Girls in Auckland.   Established on the intiative of a charismatic young bishop with a big Irish heart, and a liking for big ideas, the school received the backing of the synod of the Anglican Diocese of Auckland in November 1903 and opened its doors to the first twenty-five pupils in May 1904.   With the help of a group of English-trained missionary teachers, the founders set out to provide girls with an all-round education involving  ' the very best Religious Education and the very best scholarship.'

This fascinating history by Margaret Hammer traces the development of Diocesan from its humble origins to its emergence as New Zealand's largest independent school.  Taking its name from the refrain of the school song   (written in 1916 and updated in 2000),   Follow your star shows how Diocesan has evolved over the last century in response to educational reforms and a variety of social, economic, political and technological developments, which have affected life in New Zealand  (and the world) at large.

It shows how the school  (which is known to many simply as 'Dio') has reflected changes in attitudes towards women, and considers in some detail the contributions made by its nine headmistresses  - all of them outstanding women and leaders in the field of girls' eduction.
