This is a reissue in one volume of the classic six-volume work published in 1895.   A selection has been made of the most common and interesting birds, and they are illustrated with nearly one hundred superbly detailed and accurately coloured plates.  These illustrations are of a standard seldom found in reference books of this kind today.

Tony Soper has written a fascinating introduction and provided notes to update and explain the original tex.
