Black and White photos.   Charles Patching writes in the foreword:

"Mr Idriess's vivid pages recall busy days when Cooktown was lively with prospectors from northern Peninsula goldfields;  when men from the south-western tin-fields, from the beautiful Bloomfield and those wild outposts, the Scrub Camp and China Camp made the old town merry.    I remeber well Idriess and his mates, Norman and Charlie Baird, and the gold they found on the Daintree track.  Dick Welch, the Pierce brothers, the settlement at the Bloomfield, and the boys of the Scrub and China camps too   - are all known to me; and I am pleased to meet them again in Men of the Jungle.  The book gives find and true pictures of the lives led by our boys up here".
