Experiencing raging blizzards and severe frostbite lead to Mark being an amputee at the age of 23. However he transformed his life by became a research scientist and mading medal-winning wines. He won a sliver medal cycling at the Sydney Paralympic Games. In 2002, to his great joy, he stepped onto the summit of Mt Cook again.
