This is Popeye's story, he has born in Otago, educated at Otago Boy's High School, and joined the RAF in 1936, having worked his way from New Zealand to England as a deck-handed at the handsome salary of one shilling a month. This lead to what he is well-know for his service flying and post-war civil flying.
