Roughley's ever-popular Fish and Fisheries of Australia has been revised throughout for this new edition. While most of the previous text remains, it has been altered where necessary to bring it up to date, and some fascinating new material has been added to complete its survey of the fisheries.
Among the new material are chapters on Crayfish (with crabs and prawns) and Molluscs (with oysters, scallops, abalones, octopus etc), two aspects of the Australian fisheries which have grown enormously in importance since the book was first published.
The sporting side of the book has also been brought up to date - 'Under-water Spear-gun Fishing chapter and the Big-game Angling chapter.
And with all that, Fish and Fisheries of Australia remains what it always has been, the genial and informative Fisherman's Companion: a most useful survey of the commercial fisheries; an invaluable handbook on how to catch, recognise, cook and eat your fish; and with the tang of saltwater and sometimes the sparkle of a river freshening every page of it - the perfect gift-book for the angler.
