The book is intended to be a tribute to the early colonists and settlers in this 'neck of the woods'. The author has used the diary of his father, Captain Thomas Higham, to ensure that a record of the past be made avaiable for posterity to enjoy.
George Higham writes - 'I have endeavoured to give a contribution to the known history of the Manukau and the Waitakeres because often these things fade away and are lost and forgotten if not recorded as I have endevoured to do."
