The Kingfisher is one of the most spectacular birds found in Europe.  Its brilliant plumage, changing with the list from emerald green to turquoise blue with warm orange beneath, testifies to its origins in an environment richer in form, colour and variety of creatures than our own.

Paolo Fioratti has been fascinated by this beautiful bird since childhood.  In this book, the result of many years of observations, he describes the whole life cycle of the kingfisher; feeding, communicating, establishing and defending territory, pair formation, nest building and death. He also discusses the threats posed to the future of the birds by the destruction of the habitats in which they live.

The book is illustrated with over 140 of Fioratti's incredible colour photographs of kingfishers in their natural habitats, including studding underwater shots, taken by methods he has perfected over many years.

This is a unique documentary of this timid species, which, as every bird lover will know, once seen is never forgotten, leaving behind as it does the impression of a living cobalt and azure jewel.
