Exploring New Zealand's Coast and it's People - from the TV series 'Coasters' by Peter Young

Coasters explores the connection Kiwis have with their coasts.  Based on the television series of the same name, the book follows Al Brown as he travels our stunning and varied coastline - visiting iconic landmarks, meeting colourful characters and hearing rich tales from the past and the present.

Each chapter covers a different stretch of coast - Red Rocks to Pencarrow (Wellington), Hot Water Beach to Ferry Landing (Coromandel), Cape Brett to Russell (Bay of Islands), Tongaporutu to New Plymouth (Taranaki) Westport to Charleston (West Coast), Doubtful Sound in Fiordland and Birdlings Flat to Le Bons Bay (Banks Peninsula).

Along with the great Kiwi characters who live there, Coasters looks at how the different influences (how it was formed, how it was settled, the weather, wildlife and fisheries) have shaped the recreation and daily lives of those living along the shores.

Included are recipes Al created from the fresh coastal produce encountered during his travels.

All in all, this is a book worthy of being read cover to cover - by Kiwis and visitors alike.  It's a great coffee table book, as well as a perfect momento of a visit to New Zealand. And it may encourage friends and family overseas to visit or come home to New Zealand. And then there is that great kiwi kai!
