Living With Cerebral Palsy
When Allison Franklin was born in 1959 her breach birth led to oxygen deprivation to her brain, resulting in her having Cerebral Palsy.
Despite a grim prognosis from doctors, Allison thrived in her loving family and was able to attend local schools with her able-bodied peers. Having difficulty finding a job after leaving school in the late 1970s, Allison was offered work in the disability sector, leading to an interesting and varied career working with people with disabilities and the wider community.
Written with insight and humour, Allison's story is intended to entertain and enlighten people without experience of disability, give hope to parents of children with disabilities and encouragement to young disabled adults. This book also provides a perspective on the development of New Zealand's disability rights movement over the past three decades.
