Frederick Weld was pioneer pastoralist in the Wairarapa and Marlborough Districts of New Zealand. He was an explorer in the New Zealand back country,and, hairaisingly on an active Hawaiian volcano.

He was a water-colour painter of some ability and charm. He was elected to the first New Zealand parliament in 1854.

Noone ever described him as a man of great intellect, though his sturdy and upright character has always been admired.
