This is a true love story. Pat Booth, succesful Auckland novelist and journalist, married man and father of lovely children, falls passinately for Amanda, a thirty-nine-year-old siren from
Detroit, Mich. She is, of course a member of the well-known Chevrolet family of that city; and although her lines are solid and her tappets just a wee bit noisy, she is every inch a lovely lady.
What is more, Mrs Booth and the children fall, too, under her fatal spell.
This book tells of the courtship and the ripening of romance. Amanda has her little ways - but then, the course of true love never did run free of potholes, and the story has a happy, happy ending.
Keth Clark's illustrations will be recognised by all connoisseurs as technically accurate as well as decorative; and they complete what is, beyond doubt, a Vintage novel.
